A look inside GSC's Education Programs

My name is Beth Hoyt-Flewelling and I am the Coordinator of Recruitment for Education Programs at Granite State College. My days are spent travelling the state in search of teachers...individuals who are looking for teacher certification programs, another teaching certification or an advanced endorsement for their current certification. I attend conferences, job fairs, visit public and private schools and meet with potential students at one of the 10 Granite State College locations around the state, or in coffee shops or wherever we might meet! My car is my office and I love seeing all of New Hampshire.

It is a joy to talk with potential students who are so excited about teaching! I remember when I decided to become a teacher...I was thirty-six years old, my son was eight and I decided to return to school as an adult. I was so excited and nervous at the same time! I went in search of a Post Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Program in which I could be in a teacher preparation program while still working. This was not easy back then! I finally did find a program that allowed me to get my Early Childhood Teacher Certification and my Master's degree in Education. I wish Granite State College had been available to me back then, it is what I was in search of!

I am so excited to tell potential students about the Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification programs at Granite State College. The programs are field-based and job-embedded, meaning that you can continue to work (or volunteer) in a school while you take classes online, putting what you are learning into practice. It is one of the most affordable colleges in New Hampshire...and you can apply up to 24 of your credits toward a Master's degree!
