"No worries!"

Two of our daughters spent a semester in Australia back in the nineties.  When they came back, they brought with them what was then a new expression:  "No worries!"  Now you hear it a lot, but at the time we thought it was so original, and aptly described what appears to be the "Aussie" way of life:  Hang loose, don't worry about stuff, enjoy life.

Sounds great, doesn't it?

But life doesn't always allow you to hang loose.  I hear a lot of tough stories from my students at Granite State College, and I often marvel at their resilience.  How do they do it?  How do they soldier on through work, worries about children, troubles with their spouses or partners, sometimes serious health issues, and then, adding college courses?

But actually, I do have a pretty good idea how they do it.  If you're determined enough, you can do a lot of things you never thought you could.  Have you ever heard that statement, "If you want something done, ask the busiest person you know"?  The busiest people I know are adding college courses to their already busy lives.  "No worries?"  I think they have plenty of worries, but they also have lots of determination.  They're my heroes.
