Join me on my Journey

Hello there!

I'm Sherilee Poisson aka (Retiree SSG Poisson).  I'm currently in my second term as a full-time student with New Hampshire State University (Granite State) Rochester/Portsmouth campus pursuing my Bachelors Degree in a Self-Design: Adult Education at the ripe ol' age of 39.  I recently retired with twenty years active duty military. I served honorably 14 years in the Navy as a Dental Hygienist then transitioned into the Army Active Guard as a recruiter/supply Sergeant for the next six years until my retirement last year.  I decided after the military I would go back to school full-time and take advantage of the financial Aid and GI Bill afforded to me by the military.

You may think you can't juggle military and school at the same time but I'm here to let you know that YOU CAN!  If I can do it, so can you! You may think you're not able to take classes while in the military because you're getting sent to serve overseas but I'm here to tell you that this does not have to hinder your journey.

Granite State offers you the opportunity of pursuing your associates, bachelor or post-baccalaureate degree with 100% online programs.  Are you wondering how to get started, when to get started, who do I talk to about getting started?  I'm here to help you with these questions.  I really do believe that age ol' adage "there is no such thing as a stupid question."  Blogging will allow us the opportunity to communicate your questions or comments about the who's, whats, where's and when's of military and school. Sooooo.....let us get started!

Military and School

Have you wanted to earn your college degree?  Hooraah!!

Were you like me and right out of high school and not quite sure what you wanted to do? Maybe you knew but couldn't afford it, or maybe you were too nervous because you didn't think you would do well?  If this is YOU then YOU are not alone.

I asked the same questions and felt the same way of myself.  After joining the military...Hoorah!! I wasn't as fortunate to have a blog post that answered a lot of these questions but after talking to enough people I realized that not only could I serve my country proudly I could also pursue my dream of earning my degree.  In fact, today more than ever,  the military encourages going back to school and earning a degree or becoming certified in a particular trade.  It has never been easier to do this with the help of financial aid provided to you by the military. A few of my duty stations with the military afforded me the opportunity to take college classes online and take part time classes in the evening.  Depending on your job with the military and where you are weekend college classes may also be available.  New Hampshire University System allows endless possibilities if you are ready to get started.
