Hike in Pisgah National Forest

Sunday turned out to be a great day. The Hiking Meet-Up group here in Greenville decided to take a drive up the Pisgah National Forest.  This is one part of the country God has truly blessed in North Carolina.  There were eighteen of us that hiked. We had plenty of water as it was so hot right around 93 degrees. We also packed our sunscreen, bug spray and snacks; we were set out for an eleven mile hike up the mountains to a huge rock called "John Rock". It got it's name years ago when a fellow named John road up the mountain on his horse and the horse jumped off. I can't imagine going up that huge mountain at an elevation of 5000, but he did and lost his horse that day, at least that is how the story was told.

As we hiked, we all of course talked. In one of the conversations a friend had mentioned she had thought about going back to school to learn a new skill and/or get her degree.  I had told her about my experiences with school and Granite State College. How it was not difficult to take adult college classes. I had told her about the online classes for college; and the ease of doing it in the comfort of your own home and how it is a big plus with the busy lives we all lead. I then told her that there were many colleges with online classes but I had been very pleased with Granite State College and the staff there. Her and I talked a lot about school and other future plans we both had thought about.

The day turned out to be fun and we all were a little more in shape after an eleven mile hike. We had to stop for some ice cream the way home, I called it our reward for making it up and back down the mountain. Some said it was counter productive. All I know is that it hit the spot and oh, was it good.  Can't wait until my next adventure with this group.
