I was terrified to sign up for college at 40 years old. Working as a retail manager during the financial troubles in 2009, I knew I had to take the steps needed to protect my family's financial future. I had a lot of reasons to fear college: I had a family to care for, a full time job which sometimes demanded overtime and erratic shifts, and finally, I worried about the debt I would be taking on as a college student. As I met each challenge at Granite State College, my confidence grew, so that when I graduated in 2011 with an A.S. in Business, I felt good about immediately signing up for a B.A. program. My professors and counselors at GSC played a big role in keeping me on target, offering advice, support, and encouragement when I have sought them out. I have the sense that these individuals genuinely want to help me succeed, and due to the commitment I made, I feel great about moving on to a master's program soon!
