When you decide to meet with a career counselor, you’re hoping they’ll listen closely to your career story and offer concrete advice on how to overcome obstacles and find a career that's right for you. This may include learning more about your career direction, learning which college major is best for your career goals or updating your resume to make a career change.

Credentialing ensures that your career counselor has the knowledge, skills, education, and background to answer your questions and guide you on the right path.

The credentialing process also ensures that each career counselor renews their credentials regularly, which includes training, learning, and updating their career knowledge each year. This confirms that their expertise is up to date, relevant and helpful to today’s job seekers.

Certified Career Counselor

One designation of note is the National Career Development Association’s Certified Career Counselor (CCC) credential. This credential ensures that your Career Counselor has earned a Master’s degree or higher and is engaged in primarily career counseling practice.

The CCC credential is highly valuable, consider this description from NCDA, “(This credential) recognizes the intersection of counseling and career development.
